Friday:
On Friday April 9, the YC
Braassememermeer welcomed all participants for the 19th International
Easter Optimist Regatta. At 14:00hrs a practice race started so all young
sailors could get used to the local circumstances. With light winds (6-8
kts) from WNW the race started with some general recalls and the black
flag. After all only a few competitors finished the race, the others had a
BFD (about 55) or went ashore early. Saturday will have the first official
race starting at 10:00hrs.
Saturday:
Saturday started with
drizzle and light winds from Westerly directions. Just before the first
start of the third fleet the wind shifted Northly, so this start was
postponed. While shifting, the wind also increased a little to 10-12 knots
and the drizzle stopped. We sometimes even got sunny spells. After all,
three nice races were completed, so on Sunday we will have the two
scheduled races, the first one to start at 10:00hrs.
Sunday:
Sunday we had some clouds but also sunny spells. Wind started form
Northerly directions, about 7 knots, but tended to shift to the West. Two
races were completed, both shortened for the last starting groups, due to
lack of wind (first race) and major windshifts (second race). By the end
of the day, all scheduled race have been completed, so we have the Gold,
Silver and Bronze fleet for the two final races of Monday.
We took some pictures during last days, check them out here...
Monday:
Monday, the final day
of the 19th International Easter Optimist Regatta brought us sun and
comfortable temperatures but no wind. All sailors were kept ashore while
waiting for wind, but weather forecasts were not very promising. At the
beginning of the afternoon winds picked up a little, but did not become
stable and strong enough for fair racing so all races were cancelled.
This makes Victor Berström winner of the 19th International Easter
Optimist Regatta, with Gijs Pelt (Ned.) being second and Henrik Grim
(Swe.) third. Final
results.
